WMUR: Warmington Says New Tariffs Against Canada Amount to Sales Tax

MANCHESTER, NH — In Case You Missed It, Cinde Warmington spoke with WMUR about how Donald Trump’s tariffs are hurting working Granite Staters and highlighted her opposition to the latest round of 50% tariffs imposed by Donald Trump on Canada.

As governor, Cinde will push for tariff refunds, join other states challenging the Trump administration’s illegal tariffs in court, and work to repair New Hampshire’s relationship with Canada — unlike Kelly Ayotte, who continues to cower in the corner office.

WMUR: Warmington says new tariffs against Canada amount to sales tax for Granite Staters

• Democratic candidate for governor Cinde Warmington is slamming the new round of tariffs against Canada being implemented by President Donald Trump.

• Warmington said the re-escalation of the trade war will harm businesses in New Hampshire and that the state needs a stronger voice standing against the Trump Administration.

• "This is literally a sales tax – $1,700 a year for the average family," Warmington said. "It's a sales tax. Where is Kelly? We need to be standing up to this president, and we've seen other governors do that successfully."

• Warmington said the new 50% tariffs on certain Canadian goods will only harm consumers and New Hampshire enterprises that do business across the border.

• "Our biggest trading partner, and, of course, tourism, which we know has been affected. We've lost 30% of our tourism," Warmington said. "Just last month when I was up at Bike Week, the vendors were telling me how much Canadian tourism they've lost."

• Warmington argued this is the kind of moment that requires a governor to stand up to the president directly.

• "He's taken what is a tool in the toolbox, tariffs, and turned it into a weapon in his trade war – and it's to the detriment of everyone in the state of New Hampshire," Warmington said.
