Are you tired of all the political bickering? Annoyed by the blatant hypocrisy? It’s that time of year. Campaign season is upon us once again.
I retired from Congress last year and settled into a quieter life out of the spotlight. But this fall, I am getting back in the fight for our democracy and the life we all love right here in New Hampshire. My two new grandsons provide powerful inspiration and a reminder that the stakes for our future are just too high.
New Hampshire voters have a clear choice between Donald Trump acolyte Kelly Ayotte and former Executive Councilor Cinde Warmington, who has experience fighting special interests and Republican extremism. The bottom line is that Granite Staters cannot afford two more years of Kelly Ayotte. Everyone is feeling the pain. Housing costs are at a record high and continuing to rise. Electric rates are up another 15%. And our property taxes are skyrocketing because of Kelly’s reckless school voucher plan that drains funds from our public schools to help even the wealthy pay for private schools.
Granite Staters are taking to the streets to stop massive, polluting, water-guzzling, energy-hungry data centers while Kelly takes thousands of dollars in campaign contributions and signs a new law welcoming data centers to New Hampshire.
Kelly does not have a record to run on, so she harps on a legal client of Cinde’s from 25 years ago.
Here’s the truth. Cinde has been clear that she would not have taken the client if she had known in 2001 what we all know now about the massive, deadly fraud perpetrated by Purdue Pharma. But Kelly’s hypocrisy is truly stunning. In 2007, when she knew perfectly well the danger of opioids and the devastating impact on our families, Kelly refused to join 26 other states suing Purdue Pharma for knowingly causing the addiction of millions of patients. Meanwhile, New Hampshire lost out on up to nearly a million dollars to fight the opioid epidemic by refusing to join the lawsuit.
Even worse? Kelly collected close to half a million dollars in campaign contributions from drug companies and opioid dealers, even including the Sackler family — owners of Purdue Pharma. Those are the facts.
Cinde Warmington and I have both lived with the pain of opioid addiction in our own families. Kelly is counting on you not knowing about her cozy relationship with Big Pharma and the Sackler family.
So no more bickering and no more blatant hypocrisy. Cinde Warmington is on your side and she will work for you for a change, not the special interests. Cinde will fight to cut costs and finally give you and your family a real break. She will stand up to Donald Trump and fight the tariffs that are driving up your costs. She will tackle high property taxes and protect our public schools. She will protect your community from the threats posed by new data centers across our beautiful state.
